Problem

Existing dark-pattern taxonomies were fragmented and too academic to guide practical product decisions in mobile games.

Approach

I synthesized three established taxonomies into a single, industry-oriented framework. I designed the research protocol and recruited 30 participants who met defined screening criteria.

Evidence

I analyzed 30+ semi-structured interviews through reflexive thematic analysis, generating 954 qualitative codes. I facilitated cross-team affinity mapping in Miro and resolved coding disagreements so the themes held up.

Outcome

A validated framework, plus resource-conscious design recommendations that balance user trust, retention and monetization. The aim is practical: improve the player experience while keeping viable revenue models.
